Manon Estienne
Senior Associate
Manon is a senior associate in KRB’s Litigation Group, which she joined in 2023. Her practice focuses on resolving civil and commercial disputes. She advises and represents businesses and individuals before the Quebec courts, as well as in negotiation processes and private dispute‑resolution mechanisms, in which she navigates adeptly to the benefit of her clients.
Guided by a rigorous and pragmatic approach, Manon designs strategies that take into account business imperatives, risk exposure, and the objectives specific to each mandate. Responsive and methodical, she is skilled at quickly mobilizing the right tools in urgent situations, particularly when preparing and arguing applications on exceptionally tight timelines.
Intellectually curious and highly adaptable, Manon easily immerses herself in diverse business environments and technical subject matters. This ability to rapidly assimilate complex information, combined with disciplined execution, strengthens the confidence her clients place in her when handling fast‑paced files or mandates involving novel or complex issues.
Her areas of practice include, among others, complex contractual disputes and performance of obligations, shareholder disputes and governance issues, as well as the interpretation and enforcement of various types of contracts, including in the real estate sector. She also acts in matters of civil liability — contractual and extra‑contractual — as well as in provisional and urgent measures (safeguard orders, injunctions) and in the enforcement of security, seizures, and other conservatory measures.
Before joining KRB, Manon practiced at a Montreal-based firm specializing in civil and commercial litigation. Her international background — including graduate studies in France and internships in Italy and the Netherlands — provides her with a comparative perspective that is particularly valuable in cross‑border matters. She went on to complete her legal education at the Université de Montréal and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2020.
Committed to her professional community, Manon contributes to committees of the Young Bar of Montreal (JBM) and is a member of Connexion Internationale de Montréal (CIMtl). She shares her insights through publications featured notably in ExtraJudiciaire and Le Monde Juridique. She also maintains an interest in topics related to geopolitics and international relations.
Representative Work
- Representation of clients in urgent proceedings before the Quebec courts to obtain safeguard orders and injunctions (interlocutory or permanent), notably to preserve the status quo, stop prejudicial conduct, and protect contractual or real rights in civil and commercial matters.
- Representation of landlords in disputes involving the interpretation and enforcement of commercial leases, including the management of default notices, recovery of rent and related charges, termination, eviction and, where necessary, provisional measures to protect the landlord’s rights.
- Representation of a condominium syndicate in an exceptional proceeding seeking the forced sale of a unit under article 1080 of the Civil Code of Québec, resulting from a co‑owner’s failure to comply with the co‑ownership by‑laws, as well as the application of the sale proceeds against the damages claimed by the syndicate.
- Representation of clients in disputes involving latent defects and design or manufacturing deficiencies affecting construction projects or manufactured goods, including oversight of technical aspects and expert evidence, assessment of potential claims, and the pursuit or defense of damage claims.
- Representation of clients in estate and succession disputes, including the contestation or interpretation of testamentary provisions, accounting, administration and management of the estate, liquidation, and partition.
- Representation of parties — buyers or sellers — in actions seeking the forced transfer of title (passation de titre) following a failure to perform a promise to purchase, in the context of high‑value real estate transactions, including the analysis of contractual obligations, pre‑litigation steps, seeking injunctive relief on tight timelines, and management of the matter through settlement or judgment.
- Advising and representing clients in shareholder disputes and governance conflicts, including the application of shareholder agreements, the exercise of buy‑sell (shotgun) or redemption rights, the negotiation of business solutions and, where required, recourse to the courts to assert or protect the parties’ rights.
- Representation of clients before the Administrative Tribunal of Québec (TAQ), including strategic file preparation, drafting of pleadings and submissions, negotiations with government institutions, and advocacy at hearings.
